JD Wetherspoon is opening a new pub in Hampshire on Friday following a £1.1m re-development.

The renovation of the Red Lion site in Petersfield, formerly a pub and restaurant of the same name, has created 40 jobs.

Part of the building dates from the 16th century and is believed to have been an alehouse.

The pub will specialise in real ales, serving a wide range of beers from local and regional brewers.

Trading hours will run from 7am every day until 12 midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 12.30am Thursday to Saturday. Food will be served all day until 10pm.

The pub has wheelchair access and a specially-adapted toilet for disabled people, one bar and a smoking courtyard area.

"I am looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and am confident that it will be a good addition to Petersfield's social scene," said manager Dom Humphries.
