Licensee expands consultancy business to help pubs
A former BII Licensee of the Year is ramping up his consultancy business to help others in the pub trade.
Long-time Wadworth tenant Phil Davision has been "quietly" operating his Recipe4Success consultancy for the last two years, but has decided to make it formal.
The business offers licensees accounting and stocktaking advice as well as guidance on issues from menus and food to decor and training.
Chartered accountant and Campaign for Real Ale member Simon Witcomb works within the programme and ex BII corporate communications manager Michelle Luscombe has started to offer PR and marketing advice.
Davison, who has been in the trade for 35 years and has run the Sun in the Wood in Ashmore Green, Berkshire, for 15 years, travels to pubs to help licensees, sometimes staying for days.
A consultation with Davison costs £250 and he provides licensees with a full report of the discussion. "It's a full day's work," he said.
"Being BII Licensee of the Year 2009 winner has opened so many doors. There are other programmes like this, but none run by a licensee so it is unique as I am in touch with the industry."
He currently runs workshops through Wadworth to advise licensees, but wants to start running them at his own pub.
The homepage of the new Recipe4Success website went live on Friday, with the rest of the site to follow within a month.
Business cards have been printed and a batch of colour brochures are in the final stages. The set up costs have totalled around £3,000 including time spent working on it.
Short term plans include finishing the website, marketing the offer and targeting pub companies, breweries and licensees for business.
