Multi-site operator TM Steaks has opened its third Brakspear pub — the iconic Chequers in Marlow, Bucks.

The pub was formerly tenanted by Massive Pub Company and was closed for two years because of legal wrangling after Massive collapsed. Now TM Steaks and Brakspear have made a £400,000 joint investment to reopen the pub.

TM Steaks managing director Ted Docherty said: "We have a good relationship with Brakspear — they are very 'old school' and that little bit more personal. The Chequers has had a storming start — the people of Marlow had been waiting for it to open for a while."

Don Bridgman, chief executive of Brakspear, said: "We are really pleased that at long last we are there."

He added that trade had been so good an emergency delivery of beer had come on Monday. TM Steaks also has two Greene King leases and a Punch Taverns pub.
