JD Wetherspoon has opened two new pubs in Nottingham — the city where founder Tim Martin studied law.

The company has spent £1.8m on transforming old buildings in Carlton and Sherwood.

Most of the cash has been spent on the Free Man, which will open on the site of a former Co-op store in Carlton Hill.

There will be 45 staff, either part-time or full-time. The renovation has cost the company £1.14m.

The remaining £670,000 has been spent on revamping the former Oak Tree pub in Mansfield Road, Sherwood.

It has been turned it into the Samuel Hall, with 50 jobs being created. The company is also set to convert the old Wilkinson building in Bulwell into a pub.
