Nightclub company Tokyo Industries has bought Tru nightclub in York from Luminar. The club will be converted to its Tokyo brand and open in late September.
Tokyo Industries, which owns 19 nightclub venues across the UK, has promised to give Tru a "lavish make-over". Tokyo sites already trade in Newcastle, Huddersfield, Bradford and Oldham.
Aaron Mellor, the managing director of Tokyo Industries, told a local newspaper: "The place had just lost its love — a poor drinks selection, even worse sound system, and no real attention to customer service. It needs some sparkle adding back.
"Tru is getting one of the UK's best sound systems, and some of the world's biggest DJs and club brands — many have never visited York — are set to play here."
