Molson Coors snaps up Corona distribution
Brewing giant Molson Coors has confirmed it will be taking on the distribution of Mexican beer Corona.
The Carling brewer has signed a deal with Grupo Modelo to distribute Corona Extra and its other beer brands - Modelo Especial, Pacífico, and Negra Modelo - throughout the UK and Channel Islands, as well as Japan.
The deal confirms the parting of the ways between Wells & Young's and Corona after a 15 year association.
Mark Hunter, Molson Coors UK chief executive said: "We are delighted to serve as distributor of Modelo's portfolio of brands in the UK and Channel Islands. Among their many strong brands, Corona Extra is one of the world's top five beer brands and, as an established premium lager, is a great addition to our growing portfolio of world beers.
"We are committed to providing significant marketing support behind these brands for the benefit of our beer drinkers, our partner Modelo and Molson Coors UK."
José Pares, vice-president for Grupo Modelo, said: "This new partnership will allow us to collaborate in offering our consumers a wide range of products to satisfy different needs at different moments".
Existing Corona customers have been told to continue ordering in their normal way as Molson Coors will contact them if any processes change.
Wells & Young's this week also revealed it would no longer be distributing Red Stripe. The loss of the two brands equates to around £85m of business for the Bedford company.
