JD Wetherspoon (JDW) is giving customers with special dietary requirements the opportunity to plan their pub meal online.

Vegans, vegetarians and customers seeking gluten, dairy or nut-free dishes will be able to print a personalised menu and present it at their local Wetherspoon pub.

The new dietary section on the pub group's website also allows customers to specify a calorie range for their meal and identify low-fat dishes and those that help meet

five-a-day requirements for fruit and vegetables.

The 'what you can eat' web feature aims to show customers the choice available from the 100-plus dishes on the JDW menu, rather than making them feel restricted by dietary needs.

Once a user puts in their dietary requirements, the online menu highlights only the dishes suitable for them.

JDW food development manager Jameson Robinson said: "People with specific dietary requirements — for example, those who require gluten-free meals, are usually faced with a large menu, most of which is unsuitable for them.

Personalisation

"Our new web feature allows them to clearly see what they can enjoy from our menu and personalise it for their own use.

"It also takes away the risk of ordering a meal that might not be suitable for them."

This latest move coincides with the launch of the new JDW menu.

It includes a number of new main courses, including British beef casserole, Thai noodles, and a peri-peri chicken curry on the popular curry club menu.

Pancakes and maple-flavoured syrup, which are served with or without bacon, have been added to the breakfast menu.

The company ran a seven-day food festival with free tasters of new menu dishes offered daily, and offers such as 'desserts for £1.50 with a main meal'.
