How will England fare in the Autumn Internationals? If they go into it with a lot of confidence and belief they have a good chance. But we have to be realistic as they are competing against three of the world's best teams. New Zealand are undoubtedly the best team in the world right now. They are a formidable side.

What would be considered a successful series for England? With recent results, we are underdogs in three out of the four games. We are expected to beat to Samoa, but anything more than one victory would be good.

Who is your tip for the World Cup? New Zealand. But there's their nemesis - France - and the pressure of competing in their own country. And there's still a year to go, which is a long time in rugby.

Do you miss playing? There are certain things I miss, like the training and keeping fit. But I don't miss travelling round the world getting smashed around.

What's your favourite pub? My own pub, the Havelock Tavern, in Kensington, London, is a favourite of mine obviously. But I also like the Durham Ox, in Crayke, North Yorkshire. It's a very well run pub with great food and great accommodation.

Have you always been a real ale drinker? It depends what mood I'm in. I like cask ale, Greene King IPA. But occasionally I like a pint of something with apples in.

What would be your advice to struggling licensees? You have to accept the situation at the moment and realise there's a lot of other businesses struggling. There's no point whingeing, you're the only person that can change your business. I have no time for doom and gloom merchants, you have to do everything you can to drive people into your pub. Everytime somebody walks in, it's about how you treat that customer. If someone has a good experience, they will pass that on.

What would you do if you were Prime Minister for the day? Try to find about £90 billion I suppose! But from a pub aspect, reduce the tax on beer.

Who do you most admire? Jason Leonard. You have to admire anyone that can stay in the pub that long. Any pub that's struggling should get Jason and his mates round, then you'll be sorted!
