MP gets behind the bar for British Pub Week

A Staffordshire MP did his bit for British Pub Week by working a shift behind the bar of a local Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) pub.

Cannock MP Aidan Burley, who pulled pints at the town's Mill Farm pub on Saturday, was the "perfect barman", according an M&B spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, M&B has revealed that 220 of its managers have written to their MPs urging support for the pub as part of British Pub Week, which ended on Saturday.

Managers also called on their MPs to support the Parliamentary motion from Andrew Griffiths' to support a ban on below-cost alcohol sales to curb cheap supermarket deals.

Commenting on Burley's stint at the Mill Farm, the M&B spokeswoman said: "Aidan said he hadn't pulled a pint since he worked in a pub when he was a student — but he was very professional and really very good at it.

"He looked so relaxed behind the bar that some customers wouldn't believe he was actually their MP!

"Aidan really enjoyed the banter with our customers and explained that he was doing this to support British Pub Week.

"Mill Farm manager Sue Gibbons is so proud of her business that she treated Aidan just like a new member of staff, launching into full training mode, coaching and correcting him all night, and he responded really well."
