JD Wetherspoon has bought the freehold of a substantial leisure unit in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset for an undisclosed sum.
Cabot 5 Bars is a substantial Victorian property, comprising several four-storey buildings, which are occupied as a single unit.
The business comprises five bars, including Cabot Bar, Albany/Sports Bar and the Tudor Bar; a restaurant; and the Cabot nightclub.
The leisure units are spread over basement, ground and mezzanine floors, with total capacity for around 770 people.
Externally there is a 60-cover sun terrace plus further seating to the front of the business.
The property also features nine holiday/staff flats, which are self-contained and benefit from a rooftop sun terrace.
There is also large two-bedroom apartment on the first floor, with plans already drawn up for this to be converted into five additional self-contained flats.
Cabot 5 Bars has been owned and managed by the same family over four generations.
"Cabot 5 Bars represents a one-off opportunity for an operator to acquire an established landmark business," said Simon Chaplin, director at Christie + Co, which handled the sale.
"We believe JD Wetherspoon is the perfect company to take this prominent and distinctive business forward."
