A couple of glasses of wine a day in mid-life could make women healthier in old age, research suggests. Scientists say moderate drinking can lead to 'successful ageing', and cut the risk of stroke - Daily Mail​

A Tesco store has been banned from selling alcohol at its self-service check-outs for a month following a police sting using an underage buyer. The branch in Glasgow's Sighthill area was hit with the four-week suspension after the local licensing board heard how a 16-year-old was able to buy a two-litre bottle of cider - Press Association​

Phil Dutton is to step down following Punch's annual meeting on December 17 and the group has appointed headhunters to look for a successor. Mr Dutton will receive a year's salary, likely to be in the region of the £350,000 he earned in 2009, but is thought unlikely to receive a bonus. Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon will today hear from a group of West Lothian pupils about the impact alcohol has on their community. Youngsters from three Blackburn schools compiled a report as part of a community-led project which aims to make a positive change to the alcohol culture of the area.
