JD Wetherspoon has opened a new pub in North London's Crouch End, not far from Muswell Hill, where it opened its first pub back in 1979.

Managed by Stuart Marden, the Devonshire House opened its doors for the first time last week in a site formerly occupied by a Mitchells & Butlers-owned All Bar One.

Wetherspoons said it had spent £625,000 developing the pub, which Marden said would welcome families and drinkers alike.

Meanwhile, the managed operator has also acquired the freehold to a large site in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

Cabot 5 Bars is a freehold seafront property comprising several four-storey buildings which are occupied as a single unit.

Businesses in the property include five bars and a number of holiday flats.
