The Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) is appealing for donations from local Licensed Victuallers Associations that have folded.

The Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) is appealing for donations from local Licensed Victuallers Associations that have folded — after one disbanded LVA gave nearly £38,000.

That sum — the single biggest donation to the LTC — came from the Midlands Licensed Victuallers Charity using funds from the now-disbanded Birmingham LVA.

The money will go towards the Licensed Trade Support & Care, the LTC's support arm.

The LTC is now calling for other LVAs in a similar situation to donate their funds.

Chief executive Jim Brewster said: "In 2009 alone, we awarded £41,835 in grants to people in the Midlands area so hopefully this donation will help us achieve even more.

"Over the last couple of years a number of LVAs who have disbanded have generously bestowed their remaining funds to us. Over the last year closing LVAs including West Cornwall and the Sheffield, Rotherham & District Almshouse Fund have donated over £25,000.

"We would like to appeal to other LVAs who maybe in a similar position, and we believe there are many who could consider donating their funds to Licensed Trade Support & Care and continue to make a difference to people's lives."
