The Greek broadcaster behind Novasports has warned it will pull the plug on screenings of Premier League football via its systems in UK pubs.

Forthnet Media Holdings SA, which has the licence to broadcast Premier League games in Greece, has written an open letter to licensees saying: "We have been informed of a problem in the UK where pubs are using Novasports decoding equipment to view Barclays Premier League football.

"We do not have any right to broadcast Premier League football outside of [Greece].

"Subsequently our Nova decoding equipment is not allowed to be sold outside of the territory, and no person in the United Kingdom can make a payment to us or any supplier to view in the UK.

"If we receive information that such decoding equipment is being illegally used in the UK, we will immediately switch off/deactivate such decoding equipment.

"Nobody in the UK has the authority to offer for sale, import or use Nova decoding equipment in the UK."

Nova was the channel used by Hampshire licensee Karen Murphy, who is waiting for the results of her landmark appeal against her foreign satellite conviction at the European Court of Justice, due in January.

The latest warning follows similar action earlier this year from Sky Deutschland and Sky Italia.

The Morning Advertiser reported earlier this month that Sky Italia has paid international security company G4S to gather details of pubs that use its decoder equipment to show games over here.
