The Wine and Spirit Trade Association will expand its role on behalf of the spirits sector in the New Year.

The Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) will expand its role on behalf of the spirits sector in the New Year.

It follows the decision to cease operations of the Gin and Vodka Association (GVA).

The move will see the formation of a new Spirits Council within the WSTA to represent the interests of spirits companies.

It will be chaired by Bob Rishworth of Halewood International, the recently appointed chairman of the GVA.

The move will see Graham Bateman and Louise Foxwell joining the WSTA team from the GVA as Spirits Policy Director and Spirits Policy Manager respectively.

The changes take effect from 31 December.

"The WSTA is looking forward to working with some new member companies and expanding its role," said WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles.

"I would like to place on record our thanks to existing members for their continuing support on behalf of the industry."
