The Walkabout chain, owned by Intertain, has launched a new social media website to operate alongside its loyalty card scheme.

The Walkabout Community allows users to create their own online profile, comment on photos and videos while keeping up to date with events and sports showing at Walkabout.

It also enables Walkabout to keep in close contact with their customers and will become the new home of its Boomerang loyalty card.

Customers will be able to use their Boomerang points for redemption of online vouchers for use at Walkabouts.

Since its launch in October, more than 2000 people have signed up per week.

"Creating a socially enabled site and combining it with a loyalty program is the first part of our digital strategy," said James Mawer, commercial manager of Intertain.

"This is proving to be a very powerful channel for customer engagement. As we develop our strategy we need to be able to use social media to talk to our customers, not only through our own website, but also through other social media properties."
