A new limited edition bottle design of Jameson is set to launch at select on-trade venues and global duty free from next week.

Speaking exclusively to The Publican, designer and bar owner Paul Daly revealed that 100,000 bottles sporting his designs will roll out initially in his two venues in the east end of London: "Zigfrid Von Underbelly in Hoxton Square and Roadtrip & The Workshop on Old Street" before going on sale in duty free "across Russia, the Baltic states, Poland, Holland, Ireland and England".

"Next year, the plan is for the bottle to be everywhere else with its biggest markets being Australia, America and New Zealand," said Daly who revealed that the process began around St Patrick's Day last year with around eight Irish artists competing for the chance to design a new bottle for the brand.

"Nick Blacknell, [global brand director of Jameson], approached me to enter," said Daly, who studied fine art at Goldsmiths before becoming a sculptor, welder and bar owner.

"My inspiration for the bottle was 'The Book of Kells meets my misspent youth in a band', so it is a very autobiographical piece of art as well as being a limited edition artwork on a bottle.

"There will be a limited edition of 50 signed by me, personally, as well, making me the second Irishman to have had his signature on a bottle of Jameson after John Jameson himself," Daly said.

"What Pernod Ricard wanted to do was mix an ancient culture with a new feel, so, basically, I mixed ancient and modern and updated heritage in my style - the ancient manuscript of The Book of Kells with the tattoo vibe aesthetic.

"I'm sporting it in my bars first, because I have my own little supply, so it will be on my shelves before it's even been launched anywhere else. We'll be doing a big event on St Patrick's Day at Zigfrid for it too."
