Alcohol will still be available at 'pocket-money prices', campaigners complain. Ministers are expected to announce tomorrow that they have decided to restrict a ban on cut-price sales of alcohol, enabling supermarkets to continue selling beer at 38p a can and wine at just over £2 a bottle. The move, which will keep the ban to those drink sales below the rate of duty and VAT, has triggered claims from publicans and health campaigners that alcohol will still be available at "pocket-money prices" - The Guardian

Supermarkets will no longer be allowed to sell alcohol as a loss leader under minimum pricing measures expected to be announced by the government on Tuesday. The UK coalition has been looking into minimum pricing to tackle alcohol abuse, in spite of claims by the industry and independent analysts that increasing the cost does little to deter hardened drinkers - Financial Times

Health experts have warned that a dangerous drinking game known as 'vodka eyeballing' could rob players of their sight. The game involves pouring a measure of neat vodka onto the eyeball from the bottle. This strips away the protective membrane covering the eye causing it to sting. Vodka eyeballing is popular with students.
