Justin Carter, the founder of the Elbow Room chain of pool bars, has joined London brewer Fuller, Smith & Turner to run its Premium City pubs operation.

Carter, who sold the Elbow Room business to US pub and restaurant entrepreneur Frank Dowling in 2008, said: "Working for Fuller's will be a completely new challenge for me and I am looking forward to helping such an esteemed brand with a great estate grow even further."

Simon Emeny, Fuller's' group managing director, said: "Bringing someone of Justin's calibre on board is a real coup for Fuller's. I'm sure he will bring new ideas to our strong existing business in the Premium City division.

"We are also sad to see [former Premium City boss] Gary Anderson go. He has been a real asset to Fuller's, building a strong team and increasing our focus on good food and excellent customer service."

Anderson recently returned to his native Australia.
