Restaurant operators Mark Friend and Steve Slater have opened a new gastropub inside one of Liverpool's most famous buildings.

The duo, who own three French bistros in Liverpool city centre, have invested more than £250k to launch the Hub Alehouse & Kitchen inside the Casartelli building in the city's Hanover Street.

The interior of the Grade II listed building holds 160 covers and the menu is inspired by traditional pub fare, while the bar features several cask ales that change monthly. The pair opened their first restaurant, Bistro Pierre, in the Cavern Quarter in 2003. They also operate Bistro Jacques and Bistro Franc.

Mark Friend, director of the Hub Alehouse & Kitchen, said: "Although Steve and I have planned to open a fourth outlet in Liverpool for some time, we wanted to find the right location to introduce a fresh concept into the market.

"The Casartelli Building is the perfect setting. The Hub aims to provide quality food, a good range of cask ales, world beers, cocktails and an extensive wine list."
