Police in Stirling, Scotland, have issued a warning to anyone wanting to serve alcohol during a street party for the royal wedding.

According to a report in the Stirling Observer police claim anyone wanting to serve alcohol should have applied through the official channels at least 28 days before the event.

"Basically, anyone drinking in a public area on the day of the royal wedding is committing an offence unless they have a licence," a spokesperson said.

"The paperwork takes 28 days to go through so it's too late to apply for one now. Anyone holding a party outside and who wanted to have a drink should have applied for a licence beforehand."

A local authority representative said: "The council has not made any order relaxing the byelaws but would like to point out that enforcement is a matter for Central Scotland Police, who have discretion with regard to offences."

Drinking in public is banned in parts of Stirling, Bridge of Allan, Cambusbarron, Fallin, Throsk, Cowie, Plean, Callander, Dunblane, Arnprior, Buchlyvie, Gargunnock, Kippen, Doune, Deanston, Drymen and Fintry.

Prime Minister David Cameron had called for red tape leniency for street parties conducted on the royal wedding day, claiming people should be able to celebrate the day.
