Darran Lingley of the Five Bells in Colne Engaine, Colchester, Essex, has been named the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) licensee of the year.

Darran Lingley of the Five Bells in Colne Engaine, Colchester, Essex, has been named the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) licensee of the year.

Lingley picked up his award at the BII annual luncheon on Tuesday at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

BII chief executive Neil Robertson said: "Congratulations to Darran. High levels of professional management have led to a pub business that makes his customers happy, his community proud and, I suspect, his bank manager happy too."

The BII revealed that the quality of entries had been exceptional this year.
