Foodservice supplier Brakes has teamed up with brewer Shepherd Neame to launch its Best of British chef competition, as part of British Food Fortnight (BFF) (17 September to 2 October).

The contest is open to all Shepherd Neame managed houses and offers chefs a chance to showcase their skills by creating two dishes using British ingredients supplied by Brakes.

Three finalists will be selected during paper judging on 30 June. They will be invited to attend the Brakes Food Innovation Centre in London's Covent Garden on 2 August for a live cook-off.

On the judging panel will be celebrity chef Richard Phillips and representatives from Brakes and Shepherd Neame.

A one-to-one tuition course will be given to the winner by Phillips, as well as a three-piece Global kitchen knife set. The winning dish will be featured on Shepherd Neame specials boards during BFF.

To enter, submit two main course and two dessert ideas with pictures and costing. Main meals must include at least four British ingredients and the dessert must include three.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 29 June.

To celebrate BFF's 10th year, the organisers are offering caterers the chance to get involved and become a Love British Food member. Members will receive free advertising and promotional material.

The fortnight will be moved forwards next year to coincide with the London Olympics with the aim to showcase the biggest selection of British food than ever done before.

BFF organisers are encouraging pubs and other venues to use this year's fortnight to trail an Olympic menu. A weekend for two at a luxury hotel is up for grabs — just tell organisers what you are doing with photos and videos of promotions.

Visit www.lovebritishfood.co.uk/members for details of membership and menu ideas.
