All systems go for AllGates
Wigan-based microbrewery AllGates has announced plans to buy four pubs and expand its brewery to quadruple capacity.
The company has opened six pubs since it was founded by businessman David Mayhall and licensee Ian Thorpe five years ago, and says it wants to increase the number to 10.
It also plans to acquire more premises to increase brewing capacity four-fold — it currently produces the equivalent of 500,000 pints per year.
AllGates' Mad Monk was named best strong ale at the Society of Independent Brewers' awards last year.
The firm now produces seven permanent ales, a seasonal brew and a monthly special ale.
