Top Pub Golfers Crowned
A team from Ghyll Grove Social Club in Basildon, Essex, has won the Publican Golf Tournament 2011.
The team comprised of club members Paul Michaelson, Wayne Grant, Jason Miller and Paul Lee.
The two-day final at Staverton Golf Club, near Daventry, Northamptonshire, saw 23 teams of licensees and pub/club customers battle it out over 36 holes for the chance to win a four-day trip to luxury golf resort La Manga, in Spain.
The competition format is a four-ball stableford knockout, with the scores of all team members counting.
The Ghyll Grove scored 281 stableford points, 15 points clear of second place team the Great Wall in Weston, near Newark, Nottinghamshire led by licensee Alex Wan. His team won a two-day golf break to Celtic Manor.
Third place was won by Buckingham Golf Club in Buckingham. They win a golf trip to Woodall Spa Golf Centre in Lincolnshire.
The first three teams from seven area finals made it to the grand final, with 92 golfers taking part. The competition, now in its 17th year, is sponsored by Fuller's London Pride.
