GK pays £1.25m for Hungry Horse site
Greene King has paid £1.25m for a 99-year lease to set up a Hungry Horse pub and
restaurant at the Pipeworks retail and leisure development in Swadlincote, Derbyshire.
The 6,000sq ft venue is expected to create 20 jobs and will sit among the restored buildings at the former Wraggs Pipes and Hepworth's production plant in the town.
The entire £20m project by Rokeby Developments and Peveril Securities is set to open in the autumn and will also be home to 10 other occupiers, including a five-screen Reel Cinema.
Rokeby Developments managing director Adrian Goodall said: "We are delighted to welcome such a successful and family friendly format as Hungry Horse to Swadlincote.
"We are particularly pleased to have secured Greene King.
"This is a great reward for the multi-million pound restoration investment we have made in paying homage to the town's industrial heritage, which we think has created a unique retail and leisure destination."
A spokesman for Greene King said: "We are very excited about this addition to our Hungry Horse chain of family-friendly pubs.
"The pub will create up to 20 new jobs for people in the area and offer good food, outstanding value and an inviting atmosphere."
