Budget hotel operator Travelodge is to open a new site alongside a Marston's pub in Cornwall.

Budget hotel operator Travelodge it is to open a new site alongside a Marston's pub in Cornwall, as it reveals plans to open a further four Cornish outlets that could see more tie-ins with pub operators.

Travelodge and Marston's have exchanged contracts to co-locate on a new mixed-use development in Newquay, Cornwall. Subject to planning permission, Travelodge will open a 66-bed hotel towards the end of 2012, whilst Marston's will open a Two for One pub restaurant with 188 covers.

This is the ninth joint site venture agreed between Travelodge and Marston's. Currently six site are in operation: in Wadebridge, Chester, Ashbourne, Merthyr Tydfil and Redditch. Sites in Kidderminster and Northwich are being developed.

Travelodge has also announced that it has updated its target location list for Cornwall and is actively looking for new hotels in Camborne or Redruth; Falmouth; Truro; and Penzance. A source said there's an "above average" chance these sites will also be a joint venture with pub companies.

Tony O'Brien, UK development director for Travelodge Hotels, said: "When we are looking to open smaller hotels, locating with pub companies works really well for us. In Newquay, we have a thriving hotel on the seafront, but there is also clearly a demand for rooms on the outskirts of town.

"Teaming up with Marston's at this location will ensure our customers will not only have great value accommodation, but also a quality food and drink offer on site to match the convenience of the location."

Steve Roberts of Marston's said: "Following the successful opening of The Falcon at Wadebridge in 2010 we are very pleased to have secured a second site in Cornwall and continue to look for similar opportunities. The Newquay site is a gateway location and the new pub and hotel will complement the proposed business park as well as adding to the existing retail offer nearby."

In April, Travelodge annoucned it would link up with several pub groups as part of a £100m expansion programme.
