Peter's steps up corned beef pasty campaign
Peter's Foodservice is launching a petition to secure more support in its quest to have the corned beef pasty recognised as a Welsh national dish.
Representatives will head to the Welsh Assembly on Thursday (25 August) to present the petition to gain more backing.
Since the campaign's launch in April, Peter's has been petitioning for support including nationwide sampling in Tesco and Asda stores, a presentation to hundreds of people at the Royal Welsh Show and a social media campaign
More than 2,000 people are so far behind it, including Conservative AM for South Wales East William Graham.
"Peter's has already gained a huge amount of backing for their campaign, which shows how important a part of our national heritage the Welsh people feel the corned beef pasty is," he said.
"I'm delighted to be lending my support by accepting this petition from Peter's, and I wish them all the best in their mission to secure the corned beef pasty's new status as a national dish."
Clare Morgan, marketing controller for Peter's, said: "It was always our intention that with enough support from the public, we would try to win backing for the campaign at the highest level.
"Being able to present the petition to the Welsh Assembly is a fantastic opportunity to add a major boost to the campaign, and we're thrilled to have gained William Graham's support."
