BrewDog has launched what it claims to be the world’s strongest fermented beer, named Ghost Deer, which will be served from a taxidermy stag’s head font.

Ghost Deer, which is 28% ABV artisanal golden Belgian ale aged in six different oak casks, has been designed by the Scottish brewer “to smash UK perceptions of beer”.

James Watt, co-founder at BrewDog said: “Ghost Deer is designed to fuse craft beer, art and taxidermy. This is a revolution in brewing and in beer dispense.

"The impact is at once beautiful and disturbing — it disrupts conventions and breaks taboos, just like the beer it pours. It is fermented using three different yeast strains then aged in six different oak casks for over six months before being served from a deer’s head; it’s more complex than anything we’ve produced before.”

The new beer follows in the footsteps of BrewDog’s launch last year for its world’s strongest beer, The End of History, which was 55% ABV.

Ghost Deer, however, has been brewed using only fermentation and no ice distillation methods.

Ghost Deer will be available from today in the BrewDog Edinburgh bar for one month and will retail at £9.99 per pint.
