A Hertfordshire pub has a new focus on local produce after being taken on by local farmers.

Leasehold the Jolly Waggoner in Ardeley has been reopened by Tim and Emma Waygood who run a 175-acre farm across the road.

Produce grown and raised on the farm is used in the pub for the freshest food possible.

“We are about real food,” said Tim. “We’ve got every animal on the farm, plus a butcher’s, a baker’s and we have fresh fish delivered to the pub from the coast.

“All the meat is produced on the farm, and we grow our own vegetables and fruit. We have every British fruit tree and soft fruit growing here,” adds Tim, who has been selling his produce to the public for two years.

The farm specialises in traditional and rare breeds. It is also committed to green methods and uses 50% less fossil fuels from farm to fork.

“It is a natural extension of what we are doing at Church Farm across the road,” Tim added, whose brother also works at the pub and farm café as a chef.

Dishes are traditional with sausages, chips & beans (£6.95), Red Poll sirloin, chips, tomatoes & mushrooms (£15.95) and omelette, chips & salad (£7.95) all on the menu.

The pub also serves real ales and hosts live music three times a week.
