Moleface Pub Company is adding a gourmet fish and chip shop to its portfolio.

The four-strong company is launching the Cods Scallops, which is being given a £140,000 refurbishment.

The site is a mile away from the company’s Wollaton outlet in Nottingham.

The pub sells 400 portions of fish and chips a week.

The former Wine Rack store will open at the end of the month after it has been re-designed.

Features include fixed deckchair-style seats, fish suppliers stencilled into the ceiling, a stainless-steel counter, walk-in chillers and a top-of-the-range fryer from Florigo.

There will be a wet fish counter with cod, salmon and more uncommon, sustainable species such as
hake and gurnard. Premium options will include lobster and oysters. Diners will have the option of fish fried in beef dripping, battered, or baked in garlic, lemon and herbs. There will be space for 20 covers in the shop, which will feature table service, and music will be played in the venue.

Prices will start at £3.80 for cod, and chips at £1.20. The premises will be licensed and offer a limited wine and beer selection including white Gavi wine and pink Taittinger Champagne.

Staff will wear uniforms with the shop emblem and slogans including: “Your plaice or mine” and “The Cod Father”.

Molnar said: “We are trying to break the mould of plastic tables and chairs in fish shops. It is about restaurant-quality fish in a fish shop that still offers value for money. I envisage 80% of sales will be cod, but the other options are there. “A lot of the donkey work will be done at the Wollaton and shipped down to the shop.”
