Jack Daniels is set to launch a honey-based whiskey liqueur in the UK next year.

Tennessee Honey is a 35% abv liqueur made with honey and designed to broaden the appeal of the Bacardi-Brown-Forman owned brand, specifically targeting a younger and female audience.

It is distilled using the Jack Daniel’s No7 whiskey as its base and has tasting notes of vanilla, caramel, and honey. It can be drunk over ice or as a shot but also works in dishes such as bread and butter pudding, ice cream and as a marinade for chicken or pork.

“We really thought who enjoys our whiskey and who doesn’t,” said Jack Daniel’s master taster Jeff Norman. “Not everyone is enjoying it around the world but Jack Daniel’s has such a good name.

“So we thought how can we invite more people to enjoy it? It will appeal to a slightly younger crowd who prefer sweeter drinks. As they get older, their palette matures and they start to look for a more refined whiskey. We feel this could help forge an affinity with the Jack Daniel’s brand.”

Tennessee Honey was launched in the USA in April and has been “selling very well” and has also just launched in Canada.

Tennessee Honey will be the first variant of Jack Daniel’s launched in the UK since Gentleman Jack in 2009 and will sit alongside the original Jack Daniel’s No7 in its portfolio.

Meanwhile, Dean MacGregor of the Sahara bar in Reading won the Jack Daniels birthday cocktail competition with his Jack in Black drink, which contained Jack Daniel’s, black sambuca, cherry marnier, lemon juice, cranberry juice, cherry preserve and whisky barrel-aged bitters.
