Marco Pierre White protege takes on pub
Host Dave Mooney has re-opened the former Morris Dancers at Kelsall under a new name after agreeing a joint venture deal with Enterprise Inns.
The pub has been re-named the Lord Binning after the former feudal lord of Kelsall and re-opened for business two months ago.
Mooney is a former Morning Advertiser regional food pub award winner at the Duke of Portland, Lach Dennis, Cheshire, and his family have also run the ground breaking La Belle Epoque restaurant in Knutsford for 35 years.
Mooney said trade at the Lord Binning over the first eight weeks was already 18% above initial targets and praised Enterprise for helping to “make the whole thing happen.”
“We faced a lot of hard work getting the pub ready for trading again but Enterprise has been very supportive which was great for us,” he said.
He said business had raced ahead thanks to Monday “postcode” discount deals for local Kelsall residents, Tuesday wine deal evenings and a cask ale card scheme offering a free pint for every 10 stamped purchases.
Mooney once trained under celebrity chef Marco Pierre White at Harveys Restaurant in Wandsworth. White has already called in at the Lord Binning to check on his protege’s progress.
