The first Greene King pub to be converted to the Realpubs concept opened yesterday (17 November), with at least 12 more conversions planned over the next 18 months.

The Maynard Arms in north London’s Crouch End, the 15th Realpubs outlet, has been “extensively refurbished”, including a kitchen and garden, for an undisclosed sum.

It follows new appointments at the firm, which was bought by Greene King in April for £52.2m.

Henry Fairbanks, former national account manager for regional brewers at Heineken and area manager at Adnams, has been appointed operations manager to oversee and grow the estate.

Tarryn Gorre, formerly of restaurant company D&D London and Tom Aikens Restaurant, joined Realpubs this week as sales and marketing manager.

Greene King chief executive Rooney Anand said in July: “There are at least 20 Greene King sites that we can convert to the Realpubs concept.”

The firm has identified seven in London and 10 to 15 outside the capital, he said.
