Luminar administrator Ernst & Young has confirmed it will not reopen the Lava & Ignite in Northampton.

The administrator confirmed that it did not intend to apply for a new licence at the premises as the site is one of 11 sites administrator Ernst & Young had already planned to close.

A stampede, at the premises on 19 October, led to one student being crushed and dying on the night, and another died from injuries last week.

The incident led to the nightclub having its licence suspended for up to 28 days when a full review was to be heard by the Council’s Licensing Committee.

Councillor Christopher Malpas, chair of the Northampton Borough Council Licensing Committee, said: “Representatives of the administrators of Luminar have provided the committee with an assurance that the licence for Lava and Ignite in Northampton will not be reinstated. As there is therefore no licence, there are no matters for this sub committee to consider.

“Northamptonshire Police are undertaking a full and thorough investigation into what happened and Northampton Borough Council will continue to help them in any way we can. We will do our best to ensure that lessons are learnt from this tragedy.”

Luminar fell into administration last month.
