Gloucestershire licensee hits the small screen
Phil Kiernan, owner of freehold the Farmers Boy Inn in Longhope, in the Forest of Dean, appears in this week’s Four in a Bed.
It follows four B&B owners who each stay a night in their competitor’s accommodation, paying what they consider a fair price. The show airs five days a week. Two million people are predicted to watch each programme.
Kiernan has owned the Farmers Boy since 2000 and is having a record year, with an 80% increase in trade since summer 2010 from 300 covers a week to 700. The pub has eight bedrooms and has a deli for local businesses to sell produce.
A year ago, Kiernan started pie-making company Mad About Pies after becoming famous for his pies. The business is trading well, having won several major contracts.
The deli sells everything from candles and soaps, jams and chutneys to vegetables and fruit wines.
Last year Kiernan last year started Mad About Pies, a pie-making business, after the pub became famous for them, particularly its two in one half tender steak & Guinness, half cauliflower & Cheddar cheese pie. Pies cost £12.95 for a large and £11.50 for a smaller size.
Mad About Pies supplies to companies including Worcester Warriors, Cheltenham Town FC, Crystal Palace FC as well as other pubs, restaurants, garden centres and campsites.
