Green light for Carlsberg expansion

Brewer Carlsberg UK has been granted permission to add a new bottling line to its Northampton site that is to double its capacity for bottling beer.

A 7,000 sq ft bottling plant will be added to the site, creating up to 60 jobs. The local council’s planning committee approved the move last night.

Matt Callan, supply chain director at Carlsberg UK, said: “Carlsberg UK is committed to Northampton and committed to brewing in the UK. The green light on our plans to expand our brewery means we will create up to 60 new jobs in Northampton and be able to bottle double the amount of beer.

“We can’t wait to see that first bottle roll off the production line in early 2013.”

The announcement follows a £40m expansion and development programme completed in October 2011, which saw brewing capacity increased from 4.5m hectolitres to 6.1m hl, a third canning line installed and the introduction of an environmental programme to reduce gas and electricity consumption and waste.
