Black Dog seals its third outlet

Black Dog Ballroom, the Manchester-based bar and nightclub operator, has secured its third site as it looks to expand out of the city and develop a new bowling and pool offer.

The firm has secured a lease on the former Pure Space bar in New Wakefield Street for its second Black Dog Ballroom-branded site.

The New York speakeasy-themed venue is expected to open in May.
The company opened its first Black Dog Ballroom in Manchester’s Northern Quarter in 2009.

Last year it launched another site, the Caribbean-themed Liars Club in Back Bridge Street.

Company founder Ross Mackenzie said another site in Manchester is planned for this year, plus a further five to eight elsewhere over the next three years. More Black Dog Ballrooms and Liars are planned, along with a new concept called Black Dog Bowl, which combines bowling and pool.

“We are looking for larger sites, 8-10,000sq ft, in different cities where we can have the pool and bowling concept together. We are looking in the north-west, plus Leeds and Sheffield.”

The expansion would be part-funded by loans from Carlsberg and a private financial backer.
