The Portman Group has appointed two new members to the Independent Complaints Panel – the body which considers complaints about irresponsible alcohol marketing made under the Portman Group’s Code of Practice.

Doreen McIntyre and Elisabeth Ribbans are joining the Panel following an open recruitment process. Dr Martyn Percy, who has completed a six year term, will step down.

Sir Richard Tilt, chairman of the Independent Complaints Panel said:

“Panel members play a key role in upholding the strict standards that are set for alcohol marketing in the UK and it is important that we have a diverse membership to consider complaints about irresponsible alcohol marketing and promotions.

"This has been a very competitive process and Doreen and Elisabeth will bring a great depth of experience to our role as the independent arbiter for responsible alcohol marketing.”

Since the Code was introduced in 1996, the Panel has found over 80 products in breach of the Portman Group’s alcohol responsibility rules.

Each appointment is for a fixed term of three years. The posts were advertised publicly and attracted over 150 applications.
