Redcomb Pubs, the pub operator led by former Mitchells & Butlers executive Dan Shotton, has secured its fifth site, a Greene King leasehold in Cambridge.

Shotton described the John Barleycorn in Duxford as “one of Greene King’s most iconic leaseholds, which often features in the company’s marketing literature”.

“We’ve been working with Greene King for the past year looking for an appropriate site, and I’m delighted that we’ve now found an opportunity to work with them in such a prestigious business.

“While it’s a little smaller than our other sites with about 55 covers internally, it does have a lovely patio and garden area, as well as four letting bedrooms.

“Our plan is to gently immerse the pub and the team into the Redcomb fold, and then work with them to identify opportunities to grow the business even further — which might involve increasing the number of letting rooms available.”

Redcomb’s other pubs include one Punch Taverns outlet, a Spirit site, an Enterprise Inns venue and a free-of-tie leasehold. Last No-vember, Shotton said the company hoped to open as many as six pubs in 2012.
