Concern: The Globe could stand to miss out on revenue of £500k this summer if giant TV is not replaced
The licensee of the PMA’s Best Sports Pub of the Year is fearful of missing out on £500,000 of summer revenue after the 103-inch television screen in her pub was smashed by an intruder.

Sharon Chittock, who holds the Spirit leasehold of the Globe in Chichester, West Sussex with husband John said she was “completely gutted” to lose the TV but is adamant that the incident will not “put the pub down”.

The male intruder, who entered the pub at 6.15pm last Wednesday (18 April), also smashed another 52in television in the pub, which has 17 screens in total. A customer was also struck on the head, but was not seriously injured, and a window and door were smashed.

“It could cost us £500,000 in revenue if we don’t get the new TV in time for the European Championships and Olympics,” said Chittock. “It (the incident) was just out of the blue. We have spent six years building up the reputation of this pub, and now we will just have to start again.

“The amount of calls we have received from people asking how we are is really nice. At the end of the day it is not going to put us down. We will build again, we will get another TV. I am just thankful nobody was seriously hurt.”

The intruder is currently being held in custody, and is due to appear at Chichester Crown Court on 25 May. Chittock said she has installed a white board and projector until the new television arrives.
