Baa Bar, the Liverpool-based late-night bar operator, plans to double its estate to 20 sites over the next four years and expand beyond its heartland, M&C Report has learnt.

The company, which was formed 21 years ago and is led by chief executive Elaine Clarke, is also set to recruit its first operations director in August as it makes ready for expansion.

Baa Bar currently operates sites in Manchester, Nottingham and Liverpool, where it opened its 10th site at the start of May. Clarke told M&C Report that it plans to secure two more outlets this year, adding: “We are looking at opening 10 more sites in four years.”

Clarke said that Baa Bar is “looking up and down the M62 corridor” at various potential cities, including Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham and Cardiff.

The existing estate is half freehold and half leasehold and Clarke said it would be looking for leaseholds for its expansion drive, saying there’s currently some “low-hanging fruit” available in the leasehold market.

She said that expansion would be paid for by its own funds with support from Yorkshire Bank.
