Punch Taverns pubs take part in UK’s biggest pub darts competition

More than a quarter of Punch Taverns’ 5,000 pubs are taking part in the UK’s biggest pub darts competition Great British Pub Darts Classic.

The competition is taking place in more than 1,000 Punch pubs with four rounds in pubs before the regional finals. The top 32 teams will head to the national finals in October.

Winners will be awarded £2,400 and the chance to play against a celebrity team of current and ex-professional darts players in front of a live audience.

A further 600 pubs are taking part in Punch’s Great British pub quiz – the biggest pub quiz in the UK, organised by Redtooth.

The teams with the best average scores will compete in 20 regional finals in the summer.

The regional winners, along with the top five second place teams, will battle it out for the £2,000 cash prize.

The winners will also have a celebrity quiz team play in their pub. Last year’s quiz winners went head-to-head with a celebrity quiz team comprising of TV champions from Mastermind, Eggheads, Brain of Britain and The Chase at their pub.

Punch Buying Club director Andy Slee said: “The feedback from our pubs is that pub events like darts and quiz nights are a great way to drive footfall into pubs because customers love the atmosphere and the sense of occasion.

“We are always looking for ways to help our pubs build their business and as Punch is one of the largest pub operators in the UK, we are one of the few companies who can deliver competitions on this scale.

“Both events deliver thousands of people into our pubs on the quieter week nights and create a real sense of competition and community as well as driving wet and dry sales.”
