Churchill Inns falls into administration

Churchill Inns, the Wellingborough-based pub business, and sister group Clementines Taverns have been placed into administration, M&C Report has learnt.

The groups, which were led by Fred Ward and counted Barclays as their lead bank, comprised 11 freehold and long leasehold sites spread across Northampton.

Zolfo Cooper is believed to have been appointed as joint administrator to the businesses, which at one time operated an estate of more than 20 sites.

It is thought that the administrators will look to operate the business as a going concern for the time being before exploring possible options for the sale of the whole or parts of the business.

In early 2008, Churchill, which was founded in 1998 by Ward, launched a strategic review and appointed advisors after receiving a number of approaches for the business.

However, the group was withdrawn from the market later in the same year after offers failed to reach the vendor’s expectations.
