Admiral Taverns, the tenanted pub operator, has announced that it is to work with recruitment and training firm Acorn to help recruit tenants to its pubs.

The partnership, billed as the first of its kind, will see Admiral join forces with Acorn initially targeting South Wales. Admiral and Acorn will host two “open days” for would-be licensees.

Suzanne Smith, head of licensee recruitment and training at Admiral Taverns, said: “Acorn has access to a huge number of people looking for a new challenge and new career, including the type of individuals that we look for when recruiting a new licensee to one of our pubs.

“A key aim of the venture will be to identify talented people that may have worked in other industries but, with the right training and support, possess the necessary skills and personality to successfully make the switch to a career running their very own pub business.”

Heading up the initiative on behalf of Acorn is Jonathan Thomas, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the licensed and hospitality sector.

Thomas said: “Our role at Acorn will be to help the group source outstanding individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds that have what it takes to succeed in what is a demanding and highly rewarding industry.

“Every pub is different and the aim of the venture will be to match people who are ideally suited to each location. Our job will be to find people who are passionate about service and an exceptional customer experience – people who make a pub part of the community it serves and a great place to meet, eat and drink in.”
