The Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) has urged struggling licensees to seek help on matters such as debt following the death of Wiltshire pub landlord Malcolm Levesconte.

Levesconte, who ran the Royal Oak in Shrewton, was last seen at the pub on Sunday 9 December before disappearing with £30,000 from the pub’s Christmas thrift fund.

His body was discovered in the English Channel near Dover by Kent Police on Christmas Eve with the death being treated as non-suspicious. It is thought that Levesconte jumped from a ferry bound for the French town of St Malo.

Local families who had donated to the thrift fund have now been reimbursed after contributions were made from various parts of the world.

The LTC’s director of marketing & charity services Liz Gaffer said: “Struggling licensees who may want to talk about issues such as debt, how to find housing and state benefits entitlements, or just someone independent to talk to, can ring Licensed Trade Support & Care confidentially on 01344 898550”.
