Pub saves the (wedding) day
As if proof were ever needed that pubs are the savior of everything, two Bedfordshire licensees did the industry proud last weekend by providing a last-minute wedding reception venue to a stricken couple.

Steve and Tracy Collins discovered the day before their 18 January wedding that the pipes at their chosen reception venue had frozen in the adverse weather.

However, the couple’s local, the Globe Inn in Leighton Buzzard, answered their desperate call for help and agreed to cater for the 80+ guests at short notice.

Nearby pub, the Bridgwater Arms Hotel in Little Gaddesden, lent the Globe extra bottles of champagne and champagne glasses.

To ensure the pub was accessible for guests in cars and on foot, it also used a quad bike with snow shovel attached to clear snow and grit the steep hill which leads to the pub.

Andy Ramsden, who manages the Greene King pub with his wife Michelle said: “We already had some dinner bookings for that Saturday night so it was going to be a tight squeeze.

“We called everyone to let them know about the unexpected wedding and thankfully they were all great about it.  In fact, on the night many joined in with the celebrations.”

“We are beyond grateful to Andy, Michelle and the team at the Globe,” said Tracy Collins.

“They bent over backwards to ensure we had an unforgettable wedding for all the right reasons.  The food was delicious, the staff were brilliant, and the whole place looked amazing; really cosy and quirky, perfect for a winter wedding.  If I’m honest it was perhaps a better location than our planned venue!”

To that end, Snifter has already put the call into his local. Just in case.
