Shaftesbury, the owner of 500 properties in London’s West End, has said that the availability of vacant space is “at an exceptionally low level” in the area.

In a report of its results for the period from 1 October to 8 February, Shaftesbury added that spending had been “good” over the festive period and into the New Year.

“The successful staging of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics has enhanced the reputation of London and the West End across the world,” it said.

“In an already popular West End, domestic and overseas visitor numbers and spending have been good leading up to Christmas and throughout the New Year period.”

The company added that with continuing good demand across London, available vacant space was at an exceptionally low level.

Shaftesbury said it had sustained interest from retailers, particularly from Europe and America, seeking shops in London. Similarly there were many interesting new restaurant concepts seeking space in the West End.
