Richards: Winner at Retailers' Retailer Awards
Steve Richards, who has overseen the impressive growth of Novus Leisure, has been singled out by his peers as the stand-out individual in the eating-out and drinking-out market.

The chief executive of the premium bar and restaurant operator collected the Best Individual prize at this year’s Retailers’ Retailer of the Year Awards, organised by M&C Report.

Richards emerged from an assorted shortlist of eminent business leaders from the eating and drinking-out market, narrowly beating: Andrew Page, The Restaurant Group chief executive; Tim Bacon, Living Ventures, chief executive; Simon Emeny, Fuller’s group managing director; Alex Reilley, chief executive of Loungers; and Jonathan Kaye, chief executive of Prezzo.

The awards, in their 15th year, are the only ones voted for by senior executives from the industry itself, identifying the best companies, concepts and individuals.

Richards has led Novus since 2005 when he led the ‘public to private’ purchase of what was then Urbium Plc. It is safe to say he has overseen a momentous year for the group, leading it through its £100m acquisition by LGV Capital and Hutton Collins, while continuing to oversee the impressive re-launch of the former Balls Brothers estate.

The acquisition of Novus by LGV Capital and Hutton Collins was named Deal of the Year.

BrewDog, the Scottish brewer and operator, which is at the forefront of the craft beer bar movement picked up the Zolfo Cooper Profit Tracker Award, which tracks companies with the fastest-growing profits within the UK’s eating and drinking out sector.
