Cask Matters coverage goes weekly in the PMA
Cask Matters — the Publican’s Morning Advertiser’s dedicated content aimed at boosting the cask ale category — has undergone a revamp.

From 7 March issue, coverage will become weekly and feature pub case studies where licensees share their experiences in developing and growing a cask ale business.

The Cask Matters group developed from the supporters of the Cask Report. It was felt that an annual report did not deliver the on-going messages about cask in relation to education, development and best practice that licensees need in a fast developing marketplace.

The members of the group working under the Cask Matters banner are the Campaign for Real Ale, Society of Independent Brewers, Cask Marque, Independent Family Brewers of Britain and some of the leading cask brewers, including Adnams, Fuller’s, Greene King, Marston’s, Caledonian and Wells & Young’s. The group can now welcome Robinsons, Thwaites, Punch Taverns, St Austell and Carlsberg as new members.

Cask Marque executive director Paul Nunny, who chairs the group, said: “We welcome further support from brewers and retailers. Cask is unique to the on-trade and we need to make the most of the opportunities.”

Marston’s new Cask Ale Report shows that cask now has a 15% share of all on-trade beer, increasing distribution by 1.6% to 56% of all on-trade venues in the past year.
